I grew up listening to The Beatles. My dad would pop in a cassette of Abbey Road in the car and I distinctly remember him breaking down the layering of the instruments in The End. He said, “Here’s Ringo. Then Paul comes in on bass. Then John. And now, here’s George’s part.” My appreciation for music began to grow as I started to understand that a song isn’t created by simply throwing a drum beat, guitar riff and vocals together; it takes extreme care to keep the listener’s interest piqued by building one piece of the song on top of another.
This song was “Dynamics 101” for me, and it will always be one of my favorites.
